Home Helpers® CEO and President Emma Dickison Discusses Selflessness of In-Home Caregivers with Forbes

Over the past year, first responders, medical personnel, and Caregivers have faced some of the toughest challenges of their career as they risk their lives to serve others. COVID-19 has impacted nearly every aspect of our lives, and in-home Caregivers are no exception. As an essential business, in-home Caregivers have continued to selflessly serve loved ones throughout the country.

Recently, Home Helpers® CEO and President Emma Dickison sat down with Forbes to discuss the impact Caregivers have had and how Home Helpers is working to keep every one of their Caregivers and clients safe.

In-Home Caregiving in the Age of COVID-19

With the demand for in-home care at an all-time high, everyone’s main concern is safety.

When asked by Forbes contributor Bruce Weinstein how it’s been finding Caregivers willing to treat patients who are currently positive for COVID-19, Dickison said, “There are some Caregivers who, because of their own health situation, may be at higher risk and aren't as willing to go through the certified trainings for COVID-19 patients that are available through one of our training partners. But the individuals that are attracted to this type of work view it as an act of service, to borrow from The 5 Love Languages, and want to take care of their clients, no matter what. They take the appropriate trainings, don the appropriate personal protective gear, and continue to serve.”

Weinstein was also quick to point out that being an in-home Caregiver requires a certain level of selflessness and a giving personality. Dickinson agreed, saying, “You can train skills, but you can't train some of the intangibles that I think are key. In-home Caregivers have to love working with people. They have to have a service mindset, compassion for people, and a strong work ethic.”
